Universal Health Coverage Day 2025
The Africa Economic Forum (AEF), the Africa Economic Forum International Development (AEFID), and the Africa Health Financing Roundtable are co-hosting a high-level policy dialogue on financing universal primary healthcare in Africa to mark Universal Health Coverage Day 2023. The event will take place on December 13, 2023.
The event aims to bring together various stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society and academia, to discuss and propose solutions for the challenges and opportunities of financing primary healthcare in Africa. The event will also emphasize the importance of integrating healthcare financing with broader economic and social development agendas to ensure holistic and inclusive approaches to healthcare delivery.
The event will consist of two days of interactive and engaging sessions, including keynote addresses, panel discussions, roundtable discussions, case studies, group work, and presentations. The key thematic areas of the event will include:
- Mobilizing Domestic Resources: Exploring strategies for increasing public financing for healthcare, improving tax systems, and enhancing resource allocation for healthcare within national budgets.
- Innovative Financing Mechanisms: Examining novel approaches to healthcare financing, such as social health insurance, community-based financing schemes, and private sector engagement, and their potential impact on achieving universal primary healthcare coverage.
- Strengthening Health Systems: Discussing the importance of building resilient and effective healthcare systems, investing in health infrastructure, and improving the quality of healthcare services to ensure sustainable and equitable delivery of primary healthcare.
- Partnerships and Collaboration: Emphasizing the need for multi-stakeholder partnerships, coordination, and collaboration to leverage resources, expertise, and knowledge for strengthening healthcare financing and delivery systems in Africa.
